There’s been so much talk here on the Sub-sub about personal style/taste/influence/inspiration and if we even know what our personal style is and what inspires how we dress? Arbella at The Changing Room has a good post about it that I’m thinking about a lot.
When I ponder my own sense of style, I feel like mine operates by season and aesthetic. I had my emo/goth-lite era, I had a preppy super feminine twee era, an attempt to chanel Blair Waldorf era (headbands and all), and right now I feel like in warm weather I lean 60s French It Girl inspired a la Francoise Hardy or Bridget Bardot, and in cooler weather I go for British country girl/Sloane Ranger like Princess Di, clad in wool, tweed, and Barbour.
Both have points in their own style that I feel are timeless and look cool in any era, outside of micro-trends and seasonal in-and-then-out looks. I don’t have the energy for yearly/seasonal trends or the budget, or the desire to cater to that. For all that I love clothes, I go to the office once a week, I mostly work from home (for immuno-compromised reason), and don’t go out much because I’m kind of always working or decompressing currently. Also going out of my door somehow = spending at least $25-40 easily. I miss third places, and I digress.
Acquired Tastiness
The only thing I picked up this week were these Tuckernuck earrings I saw on Pinterest and impulse bought because, you know, ON BRAND COLORWAY
I also bought a Zero Filter Water Pitcher recommended in a Totally Recommend chat when I asked
Also bathroom cabinet and shoe storage via IKEA, seduced by promise of meatballs and lingonberry juice
Window Shopping
dyson Airwrap because while my drybar blow dryer is perfectly fine, I want the ease and convenience of the dyson with less heat damage + time because I have so much hair
Wall prints from East End Prints, a shop in London Shoreditch I found last year and I love the various print styles and artists they carry
Small Bohemian balcony sets/ideas on Pinterest are also fueling me
Standout Reads
I really liked this piece on Haute Mess about sentimental tees, I connection I’ve definitely felt with certain shirts
Ann Manov’s incredibly articulate savaging of Lauren Oyler’s “No Judgement” is a hell of a review. Oyler wasted so much potential word space in her GOOP Cruise piece for Harper’s Bazaar to wax poetical about her existential throuple crisis, which wasn’t as fun as it seems to sound
I know everyone is snarking on the essays there, but The Cut’s “Where Did You Get That?” series continues to be delightful and satisfying a slightly nosy itch about where people love to shop and what they’ve bought that stands out
Anything good you’ve bought, read, or are lusting after recently? Let’s talk in the comments!
